M. Cecilia Bocanegra, LCPC

"This isn't how becoming a mother is supposed to feel." Everyone tells you that you fall in love with your baby immediately. You believed that would happen too...in fact, you were banking on it. Instead, it's been sadness, isolation, anxiety bordering on panic, and so much guilt. You're scared and not sure you know what you're doing. You've been going through the motions, but life has become constant worry about everything having to do with your baby. When is that bond, that instinct going to kick in? Perhaps you've voiced these thoughts with loved ones to gain some clarity and reassurance. Or perhaps you're so scared of how you'll be perceived that you've kept them to yourself. But they're eating you up inside. You don't know what to do or where to go with these fears. Please know that you are not the only one who has these worries, these feelings when becoming a mom. This happens to other women too and things can change. These thoughts and feelings don't have to control you. You can come out of this fog and feel competent and connected again. *Please know that baby is always welcome in session. You do what you need to do to get the support that's available.
